The 147 million Gallon Gas Leak
My engine light came on in my vehicle not too long ago and the engine code read that there was something wrong with my 'gas cap'
I'm not sure how I ended up on the University of Nebraska – Lincoln's website, but I'm sure glad that the Google Gods took me there. My engine light came on in my vehicle not too long ago and the engine code read that there was something wrong with my 'gas cap'. Therefore I ran over to the local auto parts store and purchased a new one, but wondered what would have happened if I didn't replace it.
Well; about 17% of the vehicles on the roads have gas caps that are either damaged, loose or are missing altogether, causing 147 MILLION GALLONS OF GAS TO VAPORIZE EVERY YEAR! Loose gas caps can result in a 2.0 mpg reduction in fuel efficiency which will also hit you directly in your pocketbook. The moral of the story is that everyone should stay on top of their routine maintenance for their vehicles and replace things that are broken; don't wait around... If we are not staying on top of this, we are doing our environment and ourselves a disservice.
Thank you UNL website for the tid bits of info! Stay GREEN and enjoy your week!
